"preserving and enjoying traditional American music and dance"
The Northshore Country Dance and Song Society is a nonprofit organization founded in Slidell in 1999. We enjoy playing, singing and listening to traditional American and European folk music in all its variety. NCDSS holds several public events for children and adults each year, including concerts, contra dances and more. NCDSS hosts an Acoustic Jam Session every Tuesday at 7:30 pm at Coffee Online Cybercafe, 1925 Second Street, in Old Town Slidell, and we welcome new players and an enthusiastic audience. Come join us to enjoy a cup of coffee and an informal music session of bluegrass, Celtic, Appalachian, Cajun, and old time music! Old Time Country Dancing is high-spirited traditional dancing that has enjoyed popularity in America for over a hundred years. It is danced to live music, and is easy to learn. A caller teaches each dance before it is begun, then calls the dance. Families and individuals of all ages and skill levels are welcome. Wear casual clothes and bring a spirit of adventure!
