Rascal Helio Zavalza

Helio Zavalza plays the guitar and accordion. Helio grew up in Mexico City and started playing music in 1972 with the idea of impressing his female friends with his guitar skills. He has had some success with this. He is currently a foreign language teacher (Spanish and French) where he uses his guitar skills to facilitate and enhance the target language acquisition. He has played back-up guitar for Cajun and Bluegrass music groups and now plays rhythm guitar for the Rascals. He is currently working to learn the real core of jazz and to perfect his Cajun accordion skills. He is married to fellow Rascal, Christy West.
