Ed was born in Washington State, but spent his formative years in North and South Carolina where he was a big fan of bluegrass music and Atkins/Travis style guitar picking. As a teenager, he practiced Chet Atkins tunes on his electric guitar for hours on end. His work brought him to Louisiana in 1965. He sold his guitar and devoted his attention to non-music priorities the next twenty-five years. In the early 1990's Ed decided to get back to playing music. He bought a flat top guitar and a Dobro. He sang old time country/bluegrass and played guitar regularly at a coffeehouse in New Orleans. He also played Dobro on weekends with a country gospel group. In 1992 he formed RIVER ROAD RAMBLERS evolving into the band's mandolin player. RIVER ROAD RAMBLERS disbanded in January 2003 after playing over 150 performances in a ten year period. In January 2005, Ed formed WHISTLESTOP, a bluegrass band, with three of his picking buddies. Ed has conducted a number of Dobro and flatpicking guitar workshops, served as MC at Bluegrass festivals and continues to play solo electric guitar for various venues. He used his middle name, "Renald", when he recorded his CD titled "Multitracking" with combination of vocals, guitar, Dobro, mandolin and upright bass. Four songs on the CD are his originals.
